JB and PCNA Employee Spotlight: Jonathan

Jonathan Reid has been working for JournalBooks and PCNA, in Charlotte, for six years as a Kluge operator doing foil stamping, embossing, and die cutting.

Jonathan takes great pride in his work! “I love what I do and the opportunity to be creative. Every job is different, and I enjoy the challenge that comes with that.” Jonathan keeps samples of his most creative and challenging work and enjoys showing visitors when we have factory tours.

“Jonathan is a pleasure to work with and not only does his job exceptionally well, he also helps other team members whenever possible. He is truly a World Class Teammate” says JournalBooks President, Tim O’Boyle.

Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife Taneisha, and their three children. He enjoys being a homebody and likes watching scary movies with his two daughters Desjourne and Alexia. His son, Jonathan Jr, is very active in boy scouts and Jonathon enjoys volunteering with his troop. He also likes to go bowling with his family.

In addition to enjoying time with his family, Jonathan is considered a handyman by many of his close friends. “I install a lot of flat screen TV’s for my friends and fix things for them.”

Official Title: Creative Sales Lead  |  Years on the Job: 2.5

What do you do at JournalBooks?
I am the Creative Sales Lead. I guide our team with the creation of virtual concepts, while managing pricing to make sure that our clients are given the best options available within their budgets and guidelines.

What is your favorite JournalBooks product to promote, and why?
I love our TucNotes; the size, mobility, and our full-color printing on this item makes this a small but chic little booklet that anyone can carry around. The filler pages are perforated inside so it is very useful for taking quick notes or lists. Because this product is so small, it can fit into a shirt pocket or even inside a small pocket inside a purse, making it easy to travel with. You can even add our Smartpicx to the full-color TucNotes. I believe this is a great conversation piece for anyone who may see this product.

What is the most challenging part about your job, and how do you overcome it?
Getting customers on board for a really unique, custom project. I try to come up with creative ways to keep them in their budget, so the client can still have something really special. If you can do it, why not throw in a full-color tip-in page or a full-color GraphicWrap? I want the client’s imagination to flow when creating their custom journal.

What is something most people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m actually really outgoing and funny. Apparently, when people first meet me they think I’m reserved and quiet. I’m surprised most people think that about me!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Oh, tough question…probably horseradish cheese. So gross. Don’t ever try it!

What is the last movie you watched?
Last movie I watched was Pan. I just saw it this past weekend and it was awesome. I highly recommend it!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I really wanted to be a veterinarian. But then I grew into loving biology so I wanted to incorporate that into animals, so then I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. But I also had a passion for cooking as well. So then I wanted to be a chef, and I actually took 3 years of culinary classes. But then I ended up sticking with what I love most, which is art. 🙂

What do you do at JournalBooks?
I’m an order coordinator. I process orders for production, ship orders, answer calls/email pertaining to orders.

What is your best memory at JournalBooks?
There are so many great memories, but I would have to say our Christmas luncheon. That’s when we all come together as a group to enjoy each other’s company.

Favorite JournalBooks cover material?
My favorite cover material would have to be one of the Shimmers.

What is the hardest part about your job?
Being 100% error free!

Visalia, California

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you cast for the most important role of you?
One of my two sisters. They are the only ones that know me best!

I’m happiest when…
I’m with my family! They make me forget what stress is about for the moment!
